College grants

In today and the future economy in order to compete in the job market you have to have a college degree. Yet, paying for that college degree can be a challenge for anyone, no matter what your financial situation. A college student has to not only cover tuition, but also books, room and board, and maybe afford to actually have some fun while in college. And most college students today commute so many also have the added burden of paying for a car, insurance, gas, and car maintenance.

Not to worry there are many ways out there to get money. There are many scholarships, loans, credit cards, and even getting a part time job. Yet there are draw-backs to each of these forms of money. With scholarships there are usually standards you have to comply with in order to receive the scholarship and once you do receive the scholarship there are rules in order to keep your scholarship, such as maintaining a certain grade point average. Student loans can seem like a good idea at the time, especially those that you do not have to start repaying until after you graduate, but once you graduate and need to focus on finding a job, you know have the added chore of repaying hundreds or thousands of dollars that have been accruing interest. Credit cards also seem like instant cash, but with someone with little or no credit is going to have to deal with high interest rates and possible issues with their credit score. And lastly working a part time job, most college students will only have room in their schedule and the qualifications to work either restaurant or retail jobs. Both of these jobs can be low paying and exhausting for the already busy college student.

So how is a college student supposed to find money to pay for their education, without any side effects? The best way is to apply for a government education grant. Grants are money allotted by the government that do not have to be paid back, as long as you finish your education, and do not have strict compliancy standards once you receive the grant.

In order to apply to get a grant you need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA. You can go online to fill this out or get an application from the financial aid office at your school. You fill out you and your parents tax information and submit it. It will compile your information and come up with your expected family contribution and how much aid the government is willing to provide. Then it will inform your school and you will be awarded any financial aid through your school.

 Being a college student is tough, both academically and financially. At least with the option of government educational grants, life can be a little bit easier for many college students out there.
