College Scholarships And Grants

  • Funding for college is an issue that is most likely on the minds of the majority of high school seniors as their graduation dates quickly approach. Undoubtedly many of you are considering a melange of methods or a combination of such to pay off your exorbitant college fees through such methods as grants, loans, scholarships, personal savings, etc. All these avenues have been explored by millions of students in years past and therefore it is highly unlikely that you in your infinite intelligence will find a new, revolutionary, and exciting way to pay for college while minimizing debt.

I would like to present you with a solution that is so utterly revolutionary it even bemuses myself. In an era where the presidential administration funds exorbitantly expensive and comprehensively useless health care bills and a plethora of welfare reform acts; why not get substantial funding from them. Notice I did use the word substantial because credit must be given where credit is due.

The federal government will provide some or all financial assistance on a case by case or need basis as they see fit. Also if you are a member of a certain ethnic group or category you may also be eligible for funding there. However take your typical boring Caucasian European with a pediatrician for a father, what kind of financial assistance can be expected for these people. I can answer; it begins with n, ends with e, and rhymes with a word characterizes such individuals that wear habits, pray fifteen times a day, and do not currently comprise our political system.

In fact, I would like to provide another issue that is relevant to this discussion and that is the apparent ease of obtaining welfare as opposed to obtaining funding for an individuals higher education. In fact, according to the Social Security Administration’s Supplementary Security Record for December of 2007, there were 7,359,525 individuals on both federal and state programs receiving some form of supplementary security income. No wonder college students can not receive any substantial financial aid; we waste it on useless programs that are magnets for fraud and abuse.

Recently an article was published in the news portion of yahoo.com that quoted excerpts from a federal report that shows nearly $49 billion dollars in suspect claims were paid out over the last fiscal year. So the plan of our administration must clearly be; make programs for people who need assistance, refrain from giving them the money, make it easy for the drug dealers and scum of our society to commit fraud on an enormous scale, and forget about those pesky high school kids looking to get an education and not waste government money and instead, crazy hypothesis I know, financially support themselves! Revolutionary do you not agree?

High school seniors are under tremendous pressure as it is to make decisions that will affect them for the rest of their lives. Look into ways in which you can obtain financial assistance and then implement those. Perhaps one of the most cost-effective ways one can do this is by attending a two year community college and then transferring to a university where you will complete the other two years. This makes more sense on so many different levels; not only do you only pay for college in a significant amount for two years, but you obtain a degree from that more prestigious university without any sort of anecdote indicating that you attended a community college for two years. The debt incurred in attempting to obtain a college education is immense and will affect you for many years to come. Try every possible solution to avoid getting into debt by implementing not only the strategy mentioned above, but any other method which you see fit. The debt incurred by attending a brand name school so to speak is not worth the financial misery that it will undoubtedly bring upon you.
