Government grants for free

Receiving grants provided by the government can be a big help but you must be able to follow specific instructions or you run the risk of losing your grant on a technicality. If you do not fill out all the information correctly and you have to correct your forms, you want to remember the following things to keep you from completely missing out on your free money.

Remember to fill out all tax inforamtion for you or your parent/spouse if you are a dependent correctly and keep your address up to date! Keep a look out for information that will come in the mail to let you know that all your information is correct and you have been approved or if you are missng information that needs to be corrected in order for them to finish processing your information.

If you receive a letter stating that you are missing information be sure to call all parties involved: schools, fafsa, the office in which the grant has been offered. You want to ask exactly what is missing and make sure you get the exact information that needs to be included if you are not completely sure. Last but not least you want to find out the exact date and time that you have to turn it in and fax number. If you do not ask this you could easily turn the information in on the right day but miss it because it was not processed by the right time. If you are lucky the person will automatically tell you but it does not usually work that way.

Also make sure that you get the information of the person you speak with so if you have any discrepancy with any of the information you can write and give all pertinent inforamtion in a reconsider letter. If you cover all your points the office will generally reconsider but you must have all the information and justify that you were unable to complete due to misinformation of someone on their behalf.
