Grants for Pregnant Women
-
Since the Johnson Administration, many grant programs were initiated for people who had disabilities or were unable to work for various reasons.. Pregnant women were included in that group.
There have been many changes since that time in history, however there are both Federal and State Grant and assistance programs for pregnant women. None of these however are given in the form of actual green dollars to the individual pregnant woman, the benefits are received through local state agencies and via vouchers.
With the incoming new President, Obama has increased the overall programs to assist woman with 100 million dollars allocated to their needs along with 8.5 million to the WIC program. WIC, so you know, provides vouchers for food for the pregnant mother and there after, the newborn.
In addition there is a Federal Program called CHIP which stands for Children’s Health Insurance Program that again, is applied for through local state agencies and will provide insurance for the child. Again a grant but to the local agency, not the pregnant woman.
There is also a Rural Health Care program, which applies for pregnant woman who reside in rural areas and require prenatal care. Services and products provide, again no actual cash.
Yet another possibility is The Fair Housing Initiative Program which helps to find a home or apartment.. These particular programs are given to every State, available for every pregnant woman, paid for by Federal Grants.
Educational Grants are available for Pregnant women and the best place to start is by calling your local college of choice and asking if they have a grant in place for pregnant women, many often do. The next step would be to apply either by telephone, mail or at a local college, high school, library or community services offices, for a federal Pell Grant. This is a most versatile program allowing students to be in a higher earnings setting and still be qualified. Again, this is for educational purposes only.
In so far as direct money receiving grants, one could conceivably purchase some of the well known and seen books from infomercials, such as “Free Money” By Kevin Trudeau, or the variety of “Free Grants” books by author Matthew Lesko (the man on TV in the crazy wild colored ? Suit).
While the internet, is of course, a monumental gateway to information, if one has the time to hurdle through all the forwarding urls that lead to non related issues, I am sure there may be something out there.. This report is based on within the United States, however many countries offer Grants for pregnant women. In the UK there is an organization called “Mummy” that provides tremendous grants and services. So be certain to take some time and research the internet yet be watchful of what country’s program you might be visiting and learning about.
It is most interesting to note, in conclusion, that there are millions of dollars in Grants being funded by the Federal government to gain statistics about pregnant women. The reasons why they are pregnant. If it was a wanted pregnancy. Social acceptance. Abortion ratio’s, adoptive ratio’s. Somewhere down the line this information may prove to be of some value, however, it would seem more useful to use the funds for those who need it now no matter what the reason they became pregnant. But perhaps this is just a matter of opinion and should be left at that.
