First you will need to register on the site. The following advice is intended for people that are filing as individuals, and not as part of an organization or corporation. Once you are registered and your email address is confirmed you will be able to begin your search for appropriate grants. You will want to be sure that you are seeking grants that are open to individuals and not companies or other organizations. You are able to search the grants.gov site for available grants. While searching the site you may browse by category, browse by Agency, or use basic search. You are also able to use the advanced search option.
Once you have found a grant that interests you and fits your need it is time to download the grant application. In order to download the application you will be required to input some of your registration information. Once you have downloaded the application and saved it to your computer you will be able to view the application even when your offline. This will also allow you to complete the grant on your own time. It is important to remember though that these grants are very competitive and it is important to return them in a timely manner and pay attention to the deadlines set forth in the grant application.
Once you have completed your application it is important that you review all rules and procedures set forth in the grant. Once you have double and triple checked your application to ensure following all requirements it is advisable that you have someone else review your application. Next you will want to fix all problems that your proofreaders find. This could be simple spelling mistakes or math mistakes to clarifying your ideas on your start up.
Once you have submitted your application through gants.gov you will be able to track the status of your application. There are several different ways to track your application. The application can be tracked by the CFDA, Funding Opportunity, or Grants.gov number. Also an application may be tracked by the Competition ID.

This is good to know, seeing as I’m having a hard time finding a job. Its not like I am in any dire money situation right now, but starting up own business seems like a good avenue to take. I really had no idea there were grants of this kind.
