Nursing School Grants
-
One of the most noble and in-demand professions in existence is that of nursing. Nurses are dedicated, care-giving, nurturing, vitally required, and (unfortunately) woefully lacking in number. We won’t go into detail about the various reasons for the depletion of ranks in this field; suffice it to say that there are now many programs in place created to replenish the current shortage in this vital occupation. One of the measures taken to correct the shortage is to implement new grants and scholarships that will, hopefully, attract students into this area.
The grants available to students in the nursing field range from those who are first starting their education in nursing to those who have a nursing background but need financial aid in order to specialize in a specific area (such as nurse practitioner.) One of the best ways to increase the number of grants available is to search for those that have a required term of service at a facility that has a dire shortage of nurses. One grant program that exemplifies this is the Nursing Scholarship Program available through Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In exchange for working two years at a facility that has a high need of nurses, you may qualify for:
- Tuition
- Required fees
- Other costs such as books, clinical supplies, laboratory expenses and such, and
- A monthly stipend.
There are eligibility requirements, and while the program does cover both full-time and part-time students, preference will be given to those enrolled, or accepted, as full-time students. Preference is also given to those most requiring financial aid.
The competitive nature of this grant, and others, makes it imperative that you read all of the guidelines in order to ensure you know what is being asked, what they are looking for, and what must be submitted. If you are willing to dedicate two years to a facility that needs your help most, you can find more information about this program at nursing grants.
