Enjoy Being a Single Mom family daycare, pell grants

There was a point in my life where I lost all direction and all I was doing was surviving. I was on state aid and didn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. I wanted to go to school but had no idea how to go about paying for it. Not only that, but as a single mom I wondered where I would ever find the time to do it!

In the meantime, while the kids were napping, I was researching colleges and funding to go to school.

I love kids and to be able to stay home with my own and still make a living was just blowing my mind. Then I found out that there is a scholarship funded by State grants that pays the tuition for anyone working in a daycare. Now, I had already figured out how to get a federal grant for school. The FAFSA is the main form to fill out and if you are poor, you are going to qualify for a federal pell grant. This is a federal grant that you can apply towards living expenses, tuition, books, daycare and school supplies. Project T.E.A.C.H. had a scholarship that was gotten through a state grant. This scholarship paid for all my tuition and books, as long as I kept my daycare open for a year and only went to school part time.

So, for two years, I stayed home with my son. I ran my own business from home and took all my classes online. Not only did i make a good living at my daycare, but I got to help mothers to get back on track. I also got a start on my education and about six weeks into every semester I got a check from the school from funds that were left over after all my fees were paid.
