Women’s Grants
-
Women’ grants is one topic we can discuss endlessly. But to what extent they are utilized in a right way to the right person is the big question.
As I am from India I can talk on behalf of the Women back here. The men to women ratio is alarmingly increasing due to female infanticide in many rural parts. This is due to the age old belief that girls are a burden to family as they marry and go to their husband’s home whereas the sons are the ones who will look after the parents. So the money spent on a girl’s education will be mere waste is what many parents think mostly among the poverty class. Though this attitude is much changing, still it prevails among some section of people.Sometimes even educated and rich couple do it for the reasons best known to them. This is where the grants for the girls education comes as a silver lining for the girls future and it gives confidence to the girls parents too.
There are also other different categories such as women who are domestically tortured, who are separated from husbands, who are widowed, who are mentally retarded, who are very poor and lack education and so on. If the grants are available to women in these categories as well to sustain their livelihood, it would be great help to them in building an independent and a secured future.
We have seen that many rules exist for the welfare of the people. But they go waste because they are either ignored by the people, or they are not followed or they don’t reach out to the people. If people don’t know at the first step that such rules exist for their help than they will remain only on the paper.
In the same way grants must be utilized in the best possible way. The most important responsibility of the government will be to reach out to all sections of the people so that they know about the availability of the grants and they can utilize it at the right time for the right cause. The role of the media is very important here. The electronic and the paper media should use their power and involve themselves actively in this social cause.
If women are brought into the main stream, they can make a name for themselves. They have lot of potential within and if given the right forum and encouragement they can race ahead of men. A recent research also says men who have intelligent wives live longer than men whose wives are dumb. Jokes apart, a healthy family are one where the children have educated parents. Here education does not mean only the knowledge gained but also the wisdom, confidence and the courage developed from the exposure one receives from going out to learn and by interacting with the people. All these will play an important role in building a healthy and happy family, society, nation and the world. Everything starts from one individual getting the qualitative education.
We can conclude from all the above that if the grants are given for women, it will lead to a better and a happy world.
