Education grants are created to help students with their financial expenses in school whether in 1st grade or in college.  Education grants pertains to scholarships and college grants that are granted by the government, the state and private sector which are dedicated to help students meet their potential and have the great education that they deserve.

Scholarships are usually granted to help financially challenged families who cannot afford to send their children to school.  Everyone child wants and wishes to be educated like everybody else but it is unfortunate that the funding for these scholarships are sadly not enough at least for one year.  What that means is, even though you have lucked out this year, don’t lose hope you can try again next year or be a very persistent parent and do the necessary research and get the necessary information about grants that are available out there.  Although State grants and scholarships are the best way to go, there are also growing number of companies and charitable institutions that may be able to help you put out in terms of putting your kid to school.

The branch of government that focuses on these said grants is the Department of Education which is located in U.S. General Services Administration, Office of Citizen Services and Innovative Technologies, 1275 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20417, U.S.A. 1-800 FED INFO or 1-800 333-4636.

College grants are created to function similar to scholarships but the difference is that it focuses only on students applying for college degrees.  Seeking and selecting the best or suitable college and university should be the first thing the student or parents must do, since in the application form namely FAFSA, it does ask for the school that you wish to go to, and upon processing will determine whether it is a good college fit for you and your circumstance.  You can either get approved through Need-based grant or Merit-based grants.

Be sure to distinguish the difference between student loans and grants.  In student loans you are required to pay back what was offered to assist you and your child in terms of school financial expenses and tuition.  In Education grants you don’t have to payback what was granted, it is free, all you need to do is perform the necessary work to apply for the scholarship or college grant and be able to provide your child or children the education that they need to pursue a better looking for future for them.
